Bengaluru Court to Hear Actor Darshan’s Plea on September 19

Bengaluru court has reserved its order on jailed actor Darshan’s plea for basic jail facilities, including a mattress and pillows, until September 19.

A city court on Wednesday reserved its order until September 19 on a plea filed by jailed actor Darshan, who requested basic facilities such as a mattress, pillows, and blankets, and alleged contempt of court by jail authorities.

During the hearing, government counsel Sachin submitted a report stating that Darshan has been provided with a straw mat and blanket in accordance with the jail manual. The report also noted that the actor has been allowed phone and video calls and permitted walks for one hour in the mornings and evenings.

However, Darshan’s lawyer, Sunil, argued that the facilities requested in the plea have not been provided. He further claimed that Darshan has been kept in a quarantine cell for a month, despite undertrial prisoners being allowed only 14 days, citing World Health Organization guidelines. Sunil added that even prisoners from other countries, including Pakistan, are permitted recreational activities such as carrom, but his client faces harassment. He also alleged that jail authorities have been unresponsive to repeated requests, with family visits allowed only as per rules, and none of the additional requests granted.

In response, the government lawyer reiterated that the jail authorities have complied with the rules outlined in the jail manual. He stated that Darshan has been given a mat, blanket, utensils, and access to daily walks, and that no quarantine restrictions are currently in place.

The court will now consider both sides and deliver its order on September 19, after reviewing the claims regarding the alleged denial of basic jail facilities.
