India A has made a significant change to its squad for the ongoing 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka, with fast bowler Ashok Sharma replacing injured pacer Yudhvir Singh. The decision was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India after Yudhvir experienced discomfort in his right shoulder during the tournament.

According to an official statement from the BCCI, Yudhvir reported pain in his right shoulder while bowling on June 13. He had also experienced similar discomfort earlier during a fielding session on June 11. Following medical assessments and consultations with specialists, the BCCI Medical Team recommended a structured rehabilitation programme to ensure a complete recovery.

The board stated that Yudhvir would undergo a graduated rehabilitation process under the supervision of the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Medical experts diagnosed the issue as a right rotator cuff injury and advised careful management to prevent further complications. As a result, the young pacer was withdrawn from the India A squad currently competing against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A in Dambulla.

Ashok Sharma’s inclusion comes after an impressive run of performances over the past year. The fast bowler gained widespread recognition during the 2025-26 domestic season when he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26. He claimed 22 wickets in just ten matches, establishing himself as one of the most promising pace bowlers in the domestic circuit.

His strong domestic form earned him an opportunity in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League. Representing the Gujarat Titans, Ashok delivered several notable performances and collected six wickets in six matches. Gujarat Titans went on to finish as runners-up in the competition, further enhancing the visibility of the young fast bowler.

Ashok’s recent move from Rajasthan to Gujarat in domestic cricket also attracted attention. He became the second prominent player after India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi to switch from Rajasthan to Gujarat. Cricket observers believe the transfer will strengthen Gujarat’s pace-bowling resources while providing Ashok with additional opportunities to develop his game. Sources close to the team highlighted Ashok’s excellent recent form and noted his ability to generate significant pace.
