Mangaluru
A baby girl born at just 27 weeks of gestation and weighing only 520 grams has survived against all odds and was discharged from Father Muller Medical College Hospital in Mangaluru after nearly three months of intensive neonatal care. The infant is among the smallest premature babies successfully treated at the hospital. The pregnancy was high-risk following years of infertility treatment and was closely monitored by specialists. After the mother went into preterm labour, doctors managed to extend the pregnancy by nearly three weeks before delivering the baby via caesarean section. The newborn required advanced respiratory support, infection control and intensive care in the NICU. After continuous treatment and monitoring, she gained weight up to 1.6 kg and was discharged in stable condition, marking a major success in neonatal care.
