Farmers protest rising diesel, fertilizer prices in Vijayapura

Farmers belonging to Karnataka State Farmers’ Association and Akhand Karnataka Farmers’ Association staged a large protest at the District Collector office demanding reduction in fertilizer prices, adequate diesel supply and support for farming activities.

They submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner Dr Anand K highlighting issues faced by farmers due to rising fuel and fertilizer costs.

Siddhanagouda Jalpur said farmers are suffering due to rising diesel and petrol prices which are affecting sowing operations during monsoon season and slowing agricultural work. Arvind Kulkarni said fertilizer prices have increased sharply and restrictions like FID requirement and limited supply per acre are creating hardship for farmers. Mahadevappa Teli said drinking water shortage is affecting villages in Vijayapura taluk and irrigation canals are not supplying water properly to tail-end farmers.

Farmers urged authorities to reduce input costs ensure diesel availability and provide adequate water supply for agriculture in the region immediately.

Mahadevappa Teli also demanded release of irrigation water to all lakes starting from Nagathana village and said several villages like Aheri Jambagi Hunashyal Ankalagi Aranal and Ingalagi are facing severe water shortage affecting agriculture and livestock.

Farmers leaders said government must act immediately on diesel price reduction fertilizer availability and water distribution issues and warned of continued protests if demands are ignored in coming days across Vijayapura district. They said farmers are united and will continue democratic struggle until solutions are provided by authorities without delay. We request immediate intervention from state and central governments to support farming community and reduce input cost burden.
