Mandya orders strong summer water action plan

Mandya

District In-charge Secretary and Health and Family Welfare Department Principal Secretary Manoj Kumar Meena directed officials to ensure that there is no drinking water shortage anywhere in Mandya district during the summer season. He also instructed that all applications under the Sakala Scheme must be disposed of within the fixed time limit to ensure timely public services.

He was speaking while chairing a progress review meeting at the District Collector office. He stressed that Sakala Scheme services should be delivered efficiently and without delay to the public across rural and urban areas.

Meena reviewed drinking water supply arrangements, progress of Jal Jeevan Mission projects and availability of fodder for livestock in the district. He instructed officials to respond quickly to public complaints and ensure safe drinking water supply after proper quality testing. He also directed that tankers should be used on priority in villages facing severe water shortage.

The Secretary said that compensation must be provided to families of farmers who died due to debt or agricultural distress, and eligible beneficiaries should receive timely social security payments every month.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar informed the meeting that around 289 villages in the district are likely to face drinking water shortage during summer. He said arrangements have already been made to supply water through private tube wells in 15 villages and precautionary steps are underway in other affected areas.

He added that officials have been instructed to deepen tube wells, install additional pipes and provide electricity connections wherever required to maintain water supply.

Officials also informed that census work in the district is progressing smoothly. Senior district officials attended the meeting and discussed coordinated efforts to prevent water scarcity and improve public service delivery during the peak summer season in Mandya district.
