Karkala
Heavy pre-monsoon rain, lightning, and strong winds caused widespread destruction across Karkala taluk during the past two days. Horticultural crops and residential properties suffered major damage, especially in Bola village, where several plantations were uprooted and losses crossed five lakh rupees. One farmer alone reported damages exceeding one lakh, while many others lost trees, vines, and crops worth thousands. Lightning strikes damaged houses in Kalya and Kukkundoor villages, adding to residents’ hardships. More than twenty houses across multiple villages sustained partial roof and structural damage due to gusty winds. Despite the severe localized destruction, Udupi district continues to record below normal pre-monsoon rainfall overall this season.
