Bantwal
Authorities in Dakshina Kannada have ordered emergency water releases after the Netravati river level dropped sharply near Bantwal. Stretches between Jakribettu dam and the Panemangaluru bridge have nearly dried, exposing rocks and sandbanks amid intense summer heat. Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik Ulipadiguthu directed officials to closely monitor drinking water availability and consumption. Mangaluru depends on the Thumbe vented dam, which currently holds enough water for about twenty two days. To prevent shortages, the deputy commissioner ordered water from the AMR dam released until Thumbe reaches six meters. Officials also banned nonessential usage of AMR water and instructed irrigation engineers and AMR Power Private Limited to implement the directive immediately.
