Newly elected mayor Shivakumar asked the officials to respond to the people’s problems without any delay.
During a meeting with the officials at the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), the mayor said the officials should visit wards rather than working from their office. Shivakumar said he has noticed a few officials are not working effectively.
The mayor also warned the officials against misleading the elected representatives by providing deceptive information during the meetings. He also urged the officials to bring their problems to his notice directly without any hesitation.
The mayor also obtained details from the revenue department, health department, and Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), which is the water supplying arm of the MCC. Deputy Commissioners and Executive Engineers attended the meeting.
The mayor took exception to technical issues faced by customers paying taxes online.
However, MCC commissioner G Lakshmikant Reddy claimed that this year, the people have paid Rs 45 crore tax online. There were technical glitches in the months of April and May but, now, the problem is being resolved, he said.
Revenue officials informed that the civic body has targeted to collect Rs 185 crore tax this financial year. The authorities have collected Rs 120 crore property tax in five months and the remaining will be collected by the end of the financial year, they informed.
Fill potholes before Dasara
The mayor also directed the officials to fill potholes on the city’s streets before the commencement of Dasara. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain is likely to continue till November. It is a challenge to repair the dilapidated roads. Hence, the potholes should be cleared immediately, he directed.
