BJP Postponing BBMP Elections Out Of Fear Of Losing, Alleges Congress

The BJP government is trying to postpone the BBMP elections due to the fear of defeat. Congress has accused it of acting as if it is ahead in grants and behind in development.
Former mayors of BBMP such as Huchappa, Gangambike, former members M. Shivaraj, Wajid Satyanarayan and KL Mohan who spoke at the press conference said that in 2008, the BJP-JDS coalition government had not held elections for 4 years. He expressed outrage that lame excuses are being made without holding elections for two years now.
The BJP is paying lip service to giving priority to local governance and decentralization. We are informed that they have tried to ask for more time before conducting the elections.
Due to the struggle of the Congress, the Supreme Court has directed to start the election process. Within a week the processes including publication of reservation list should be started. But earlier the government took 8 weeks-time and the promise was broken. Even after giving another week’s time, there was no positive response.
He alleged that the court is being disrespected.
The reservation list should be published within the next four days. Election processes should be initiated. Otherwise, Congress leaders have warned that a contempt of court case will have to be filed after the expiry of the 7-day deadline.
Even with 198 wards, it was not possible to provide the necessary infrastructure. 110 villages newly included in BBMP were deprived of infrastructure like road, water and drainage.
Now the ward number has been increased to 243. Manaso Ichhe constituency has been re-divided. He urged the Urban Development Department to make the minimum reservation fair.

The new act framed for BBMP is not solving the problem. Without local representatives, the common people are not getting facilities like bicycle, laptop, sewing machine, payment of medical expenses. He expressed outrage that there is no one to listen to the plight of the people.
