Dakshina Kannada district is gearing up for the successful implementation of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign of the central government, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The campaign to be held between August 11 and 17, will see houses hoisting the national flag, and the district has entrusted women’s self-help groups to stitch the tricolour.
The Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Mission (KSRLM) has directed the Sanjeevini SHG, at the gram panchayat level in the district, to prepare national flags. A training programme for 62 women SHG members of the Rudset Institute, Ujire, was organised on Friday, to teach stitching of the national flag, as per The Flag Code of India, 2021, amendment.
A release from the department of information and public relations stated that the materials required for making the flag were procured from shops in Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
Women, who were trained in the programme, will start stitching flags and printing the Ashoka Chakra on them at various gram panchayats in the district. Later, the flags will be handed over to the Sanjeevini SHG of the KSRLM, which will market them.
