Deputy Commissioner Dr R Selvamani said that fertilizer is available in sufficient quantity in the district and it should be ensured that it is adequately available to the farmers.

He held a meeting with Agriculture Department officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday regarding the availability of fertilizers in the district.

Various grades of fertilizers have been gradually supplied as per the requirement of the district. Agriculture Department officials should regularly visit Farmer Contact Centers to check availability of fertilizer and sowing seeds. Care should be taken not to sell fertilizer in black market. The sale of adulterated fertilizers should be monitored and continuous inspection should be carried out. He said that complaints about the quality of fertilizer should be investigated immediately and criminal cases should be registered in such cases.   Details of available fertilizer inventory should be published at each Farmer Contact Centre. He said that if there are complaints about poor sowing seed supply, it should be investigated and appropriate action should be taken,  he said.

Conduct Crop Damage Survey: A joint survey should be conducted and a comprehensive report should be submitted regarding the crop damage caused in various parts of the district due to heavy rains. Crop damage survey should be started as soon as the neighboring water subsides. NDRF guidelines on crop damage should be strictly followed. Steps should be taken to distribute appropriate compensation to the farmers who have suffered crop damage, the Deputy Commissioner said.

District and Taluk level officials of Agriculture Department were present in the meeting.
