Tungabhadra Reservoir Management Board Secretary G Nagamohan has said that the repair work of crustgate of Tungabhadra reservoir has been completed and there is no problem at present.
Radical gear box of Crustgate No. 21 was damaged due to technical fault. The repair work was immediately taken up and the repair work was completed within ten days. He said that in case of an emergency, water can be supplied from the 21st crust gate as well. The reservoir has a total of 33 crustgates and the remaining 32 crustgates are in good condition. At the same time, he said that a total of 6.50 lakh cusecs of water can be drained from these.
This type of technical fault has not been seen before since the construction of the dam. Earlier in 1992, 3.69 lakh cusecs of water was released into the river. He said that even now the reservoir is in a condition to drain water.
A total of three crustgates had a technical fault. Two had minor technical difficulties, only one had major damage. Nagmohan had earlier issued a media release saying that due to this, it is not possible to drain the water.
