Karjol Under Fire From Opposition As Rain Situation Worsens

Belagavi

The absence of district in-charge minister Govind Karjol, at a time when the district is reeling under heavy rain, is being criticised by the opposition. Karjol, on the other hand, has been reiterating that the rain condition is under control and there is nothing to panic.
For the past 6-7 days, the district has experienced continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of the Krishna, Vedganga, Doodganga, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Markandeya, and Hiranyakeshi rivers. Due to river swelling, more than five barrages and thousands of hectares of crops have been submerged. The district administration has advised people on the riverbanks to relocate to safer areas.
A few days ago, KPCC working president Satish Jarkiholi chastised the BJP ministers in the district for failing to respond to the people’s plight. Youth Congress leader Manjunath Kamble stated that they (party workers) are going to file a missing person report with the police station, demanding that the minister Karjol be searched because he never visited the district despite the flooding.
In response to the allegations, minister Karjol issued a press release stating that there is currently no threat of floods in Belagavi. People are experiencing some difficulties as a result of continuous rainfall. I have already alerted the officers to take care of people. In Belagavi, we have prepared a list of 61 villages that will be completely submerged and 166 villages that will be partially submerged during the flood. There is no threat of flooding in Maharashtra right now because the reservoirs are not full. Even if such a situation arises, people can contact local officers, the minister said.
Four school buildings collapsed
Four school buildings in Khanapur taluk collapsed in the last two days due to heavy rain. According to reports, Marathi medium government schools in Gurlgunji, Mudewadi, and Halaga, and Kannada medium government schools in Gandigwad village, have collapsed.
Although no casualties have been reported, the incidents have left parents worried. Following the school building collapse incidents, the district administration requested a detailed report from the officers, and instructed the authorities not to operate schools in dilapidated buildings. In Kittur taluk, 20 houses collapsed due to rain. For the past four days, four bridges/barrages in Nipani taluk have been under water: Karadaga-Bhoj, Kunnur-Bhojwadi, Akkol-Sidnal, and Jatrat- Bhivashi, and Malikwad-Dattawat barrage in Chikodi taluk. For commuters, the police department has arranged alternative routes.
An NDRF team of 22 members and a Karnataka Rajya Vipattu Spandana Pade team of 65 members have been kept ready to deal with any critical flood situation.
