Bidar
The 40th State Conference of the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association began on a grand note in Bidar on Saturday, drawing journalists, religious leaders, political representatives, and public figures from across the state. The event was marked by a large procession and a series of symbolic and cultural displays promoting peace and unity.
The conference procession began from Basaveshwar Circle and moved through Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle before reaching the Zeera Convention Hall on Janwada Road. As part of the 40th edition celebrations, participants released 40 balloons carrying a message of peace and also displayed symbolic “40 codes,” marking the milestone conference. Cultural troupes supported by the Department of Kannada and Culture added colour to the procession.
At the inauguration, Municipal Administration Minister Rahim Khan and other dignitaries joined Swamijis, senior journalists, and association leaders. Sri Nijagunananda Swamiji said journalists play a key role in giving voice to the voiceless and delivering justice to society. He praised the association’s efforts in honouring the media community and urged people to respect responsible journalism.
Speakers at the event said the press plays an important role in guiding society and highlighting issues of justice. They noted that journalism continues to evolve with changing times, but its core responsibility toward the public remains the same.
The main conference was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Zeera Convention Hall. Speaking for over 35 minutes, he said journalists must always remain pro-people and pro-society, and work towards empowering the weaker sections. He stressed that the media should help spread awareness and give voice to the unheard.
Referring to social equality, the Chief Minister said India’s Constitution, framed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, reflects unity in diversity. He urged journalists to ensure that constitutional values are upheld in society. He also cited the efforts of social reformers like Basavanna and Mahatma Gandhi, saying their ideals of equality and justice remain relevant today.
Siddaramaiah further said that journalism should help eliminate inequality, caste discrimination, and exploitation. He called for continued efforts toward building a humane and rational society based on equality and awareness.
The event witnessed participation from journalists across Karnataka, along with senior officials and public representatives.
