Supporters slam poor results and management, threaten empty stands in Kochi

A major rift has emerged between Kerala Blasters FC and their passionate fan base, with supporters’ group Manjappada announcing a boycott of all remaining matches this season.
The call, shared widely across social media platforms, comes amid growing frustration over the club’s poor performances in the ongoing Indian Super League campaign. Manjappada, regarded as one of Asia’s largest football fan groups, accused the management of lacking vision, consistency, and connection with supporters.
In a strongly worded statement, the group said the team has “no clear motive or identity,” pointing to repeated failures this season. The Blasters currently languish near the bottom of the standings, with just one point from six matches, intensifying concerns over their form.
The decline has been stark since the departure of former head coach Ivan Vukomanovic in 2024, under whom the club had enjoyed relative stability and success. Since then, multiple coaching changes — including stints by Mikael Stahre, T G Purushothaman, and David Catala — have failed to deliver results, with each tenure ending prematurely.
Manjappada also criticised what it described as poor player management, questionable signings, and a lack of long-term planning. The group alleged a growing disconnect between the club’s leadership and its loyal supporters, which has further fuelled dissatisfaction.
The impact of the boycott could be significant. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, known for its electrifying atmosphere during Blasters matches, has already witnessed a dip in attendance this season. A sustained boycott may strip the venue of its iconic fan-driven energy, which has long been a defining feature of Kerala football culture.
Despite their protest, Manjappada had recently played an active role in promoting international fixtures, including India’s Asian Cup qualifier, showcasing their continued commitment to the sport.
The Kerala Blasters management has yet to officially respond to the boycott call. As tensions escalate, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining whether the club can rebuild trust with its supporters or face deeper alienation from its most devoted fan base.
