Tribal stars ready to shine in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR
The heartbeat of tribal India is pulsing through Chhattisgarh this week. Starting March 25, the Khelo India Tribal Games will bring together over 3,700 participants for a massive celebration of skill and spirit. This ten-day festival spans across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja, turning the state into a grand stage for hidden talent.
For these 2,300 athletes, the games represent a life-changing opportunity. Former football legend Bhaichung Bhutia, who hails from a tribal community himself, believes these athletes possess a natural gift for sports. He noted that this platform is essential to nurture that raw energy and give young people the national spotlight they deserve.
The competition features nine exciting sports. Fans can cheer on traditional favorites like wrestling, hockey, and archery. To keep our heritage alive, the event will also showcase Mallakhamb and kabaddi. These games prove that traditional roots and modern athleticism go hand in hand.
Adding local flavor is the official mascot, ‘Morveer.’ The name combines the Chhattisgarhi words for “ours” and “bravery.” It perfectly mirrors the courage of the competitors. Beyond winning medals, the event serves as a scouting ground for professional coaches.
As the opening ceremony nears, the message is clear: your background should never limit your future. In the stadiums of Raipur and the fields of Jagdalpur, a new generation of heroes is about to rise. This is more than just a tournament; it is a festival of hope for every tribal youth in India.
