China urges pause in West Asia conflict

Beijing

China has called for an immediate halt to the ongoing West Asia conflict, warning of serious global economic consequences as the crisis enters its 21st day.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the situation is rapidly worsening and affecting not just the region but the entire world. He noted that the conflict is damaging key sectors such as energy, finance, trade and shipping, which are vital to global stability.

China stressed that military action is not a solution and may only deepen tensions. Lin said past experiences show that armed conflict leads to more hostility rather than peace. He urged all parties involved to immediately “press the pause button” on military operations to prevent further escalation.

Beijing also reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic efforts. It said China is ready to work with other countries to help bring about a ceasefire and restore peace in the region at the earliest.

The conflict began on February 28 with a joint US-Israel offensive against Iran and has since expanded across multiple fronts. The situation intensified after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following which his son Mojtaba Khamenei took over leadership.

Rising tensions have put pressure on major global energy routes, especially the Strait of Hormuz. Disruptions in oil and gas supplies and shipping activities are raising concerns about long-term economic stability worldwide.
