IBM Announces Major Skill Development Initiative to Train 5 Million Learners in Advanced Technologies by 2030

IBM has unveiled an ambitious skill development programme in India aimed at training millions in future technologies.

New Delhi
IBM on Friday announced a significant expansion of its skill development efforts in India, committing to train 5 million learners in advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum computing by 2030. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s digital talent pipeline and making advanced technology education more inclusive, accessible and aligned with future workforce needs.

The company said the programme will focus on expanding AI and emerging technology education across schools, universities and vocational training ecosystems. By targeting learners at different stages of their academic and professional journeys, IBM aims to build a strong foundation of future-ready skills that can support India’s ambitions in the global technology landscape.

As part of the initiative, IBM will collaborate closely with key academic and regulatory institutions, including the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). These partnerships will promote hands-on learning and practical exposure through AI-focused courses, faculty development programmes, curriculum integration, hackathons and internship opportunities. The emphasis on experiential learning is intended to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

IBM Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna said India has the talent and ambition required to emerge as a global leader in AI and quantum technologies. He noted that fluency in frontier technologies will play a critical role in determining future economic competitiveness, scientific advancement and broader societal transformation.

India possesses the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI & Quantum. Fluency in frontier technologies will define economic competitiveness, scientific progress and societal transformation, Krishna said. He added that by democratising access to advanced skills, IBM aims to empower youth and students to innovate, build solutions and contribute to India’s long-term growth.
