A leopard that had triggered fear and sleepless nights in Haronahalli village was captured by forest officials, bringing relief to residents

Forest Department officials have successfully captured a leopard that had been disturbing the peace of villagers, bringing much-needed relief to the local community. The big cat was trapped in a cage on the night of Saturday, December 13, ending days of fear and sleepless nights for residents.
The incident occurred in Haronahalli village of Doddaballapur taluk in Bengaluru Rural district, where the leopard’s movement had created panic among villagers. The animal had reportedly attacked and killed goats and dogs, heightening anxiety and forcing people to remain indoors, especially after dark. Continuous sightings and livestock losses had left the villagers worried about their safety.
Concerned over the growing threat, village leaders alerted the Forest Department. Sridhar, a local leader and former president of the Arudi Gram Panchayat, informed forest officials about the leopard’s frequent movement in the area. Acting swiftly on the information, forest officials installed a cage on Saturday evening at a strategic location in the village.
Within a day of placing the trap, the leopard was successfully captured, much to the relief of the villagers. Following the capture, residents expressed happiness and gratitude to the Forest Department for their prompt action and effective response.
Forest officials said the leopard would be shifted as per standard wildlife protocols and monitored further. They also advised residents living near forest fringes to remain cautious and immediately report any wildlife sightings. The timely operation has restored a sense of safety in Haronahalli village, allowing villagers to return to their normal routines without fear.
