BBMP launches intensive cleaning for festivities

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has undertaken extensive cleaning operations along the Ganesh Chaturthi procession route in Pulakeshinagar Division, East Zone, to ensure a hygienic and safe environment for devotees during the celebrations.

As thousands of people are expected to participate in processions and public gatherings, civic officials have deployed additional staff and machinery to clear garbage, desilt drains, and wash roads. According to BBMP authorities, the initiative is aimed at preventing littering and waterlogging, both of which have been persistent concerns during festive seasons in the past.

Special attention is being given to major intersections, market areas, and temple surroundings along the route. Workers have also been tasked with spraying disinfectants and ensuring that waste bins are placed at regular intervals. The civic body has further appealed to residents and shopkeepers to cooperate by disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding plastic usage.

Senior BBMP officials inspected the cleaning drive and directed engineers to maintain high cleanliness standards throughout the festival. They emphasised that the initiative reflects the civic body’s commitment to keeping Bengaluru clean and safe during large-scale religious events. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and BBMP Chief Commissioner have also instructed zonal officers to continue monitoring the routes until the completion of festivities. Public health teams will remain on standby to address any emergencies. Residents have lauded the proactive measures, noting that cleaner surroundings not only enhance the festive spirit but also reduce health risks during mass gatherings.
