Police train Aerocity Hotels for anti-narcotics vigilance

Delhi Police held a specialised workshop for Aerocity hotel security staff to boost anti-narcotics vigilance and strengthen coordinated enforcement.

New Delhi
Reinforcing the Centre’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy on drug abuse and trafficking, the Delhi Police on Thursday conducted a dedicated training and awareness workshop for hotel security personnel in Aerocity, one of Delhi’s busiest hospitality hubs.

The initiative, carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Crime Branch, sought to improve vigilance among private security teams and enhance coordination between law enforcement agencies and commercial establishments. Officials said approximately 85 Chief Security Officers (CSOs) from 11 major hotels in the Aerocity zone attended the session.

The workshop is part of Delhi Police’s broader campaign to curb narcotics-related crimes through strategic operations, grassroots awareness efforts, and capacity-building programmes. The training was led by ACP Anil Shram from the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) and Inspector Rakesh Duhan of the ANTF.

Participants were briefed on the existing drug landscape in the Capital, including commonly trafficked narcotics, behavioural and physical indicators of drug abuse, and the primary source states that supply illegal substances to Delhi. Officers also highlighted the serious health impacts of narcotics consumption, stressing the need for collective vigilance to prevent and report any suspicious activities.

A key highlight of the workshop was the introduction of the MANAS portal (1933), a confidential reporting platform designed to allow citizens and private entities to share drug-related information securely. Officials demonstrated its functionality and underscored the strong anonymity safeguards, encouraging hotel security units to use the portal without hesitation.

To reinforce commitment to the cause, all attendees took the Anti-Drugs e-Pledge. The initiative received strong appreciation from participants, including former ACP Abhirup Banerji, now Consultant Security with Delhi International Airport Ltd, and Naveen Sehgal, AGM (Aerocity Security). Both praised the proactive steps taken by Delhi Police to involve private security agencies in combating the drug menace in a high-footfall commercial district.
