Forest, Biology and Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre stressed the need for responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, calling it a transformative force for sustainable development.
Inaugurating a national seminar on “Artificial Intelligence in Education – Applications and Impacts” at RPA First Grade College, Rajajinagar, Khandre said AI and machine learning are no longer futuristic concepts but necessities of modern learning. “Incorporating AI into high school education will enhance knowledge, provide personalized learning, and prepare students for a technology-driven future,” he observed.
The minister noted that AI Is already reshaping teaching and learning methods, from personalized platforms and automated grading to chatbots, research assistance, and virtual classrooms. “Smart classrooms, adaptive learning systems, and intelligent teaching platforms are transforming the traditional education model. In the coming days, even rural students in Karnataka will have access to AI-driven platforms similar to those used in New York or Tokyo,” he said. Khandre cautioned that India, though a fast-growing global economy, must ensure AI becomes a tool of empowerment rather than job displacement. “If we fail to adapt to technological advancements, we risk falling behind,” he warned.
Emphasizing sustainable growth, Khandre said advanced technology must be used responsibly to balance progress with environmental preservation. “India should not only produce engineers and innovators but also visionary leaders who can harness AI to solve real-world challenges,” he remarked. He expressed hope that the seminar would yield insights beneficial to students, educators, and the broader education sector.
