Indian, Moroccan Navies Strengthen Maritime Security Cooperation

New Delhi

The Indian Navy and the Royal Moroccan Navy held detailed discussions in New Delhi on Tuesday to strengthen their naval partnership. Both sides focused on structured training exchanges, improving information-sharing, and expanding cooperation in maritime security.

Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy, is on an official visit to India. He was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at South Block Lawns by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. The two officers later held talks on enhancing defence cooperation, which has steadily grown between the two nations.

This visit follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s trip to Morocco in September, highlighting continued high-level engagement. During his visit, Singh inaugurated Tata Advanced Systems Maroc’s new manufacturing facility in Berrechid, calling it a milestone in global defence collaboration. He emphasized India’s vision of “Make in India, Make with Friends, and Make for the World,” showcasing India’s readiness to partner with trusted allies in advanced defence technologies.

Singh also met Morocco’s Defence Minister Abdeltif Loudiyi, where both leaders signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation. The MoU provides a strong framework for collaboration in defence industry, joint exercises, military training, and capacity building.

The roadmap agreed upon includes cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security, cyber defence, peacekeeping, military medicine, and expert exchanges. Singh announced the opening of a new Defence Wing at the Indian Embassy in Rabat to give momentum to these initiatives.

Highlighting India’s defence capabilities, Singh assured Morocco that Indian companies are well-positioned to meet its defence needs. The meeting marked a significant milestone, reflecting the growing convergence of strategic interests between India and Morocco.
