Basava Jayanthi will be celebrated on May 3 by performing flag hoisting and garlanding the Basaveshwara statue. The Basaveshwara idol procession will start at 9 am from Dr Shivarathri Rajendra circle and will reach the Kala Mandir. At 11 am the inaugural function in cooperation with the distric administration is arranged, said LS Mahadevaswamy Sakkalli, president of Basava Balaja Okkuta.
He was speaking at a press conference. He said, the union is celebrating basava jayanthi for the last 25 years jointly with Akhila Bharata Veerashiva Lingayata Mahasabha, Veerashaiva Lingayata associations and basava balaga. In the afternoon at 1.30 pm, cultural programmes by women and children is arranged and at 5 pm the comedy evening show will be held by renowned comedians from the state.
Police commissioner Dr Chandragupta, Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadhi Goutam will inaugurate the celebrations. Mahantha Swamy of Sri Gurumalleshwara Dasoha Mahasamsthana Mutt, Devanur, Deputy mayor Anwar Baig, Superintendent of Police R Chetan will be chief guests. MUDA president Dr DB Natesh, Chidananda Swami of Hosamutt will participate and MLA SA Ramadas will preside over the function, Mahadevaswamy said.
