Tumbbad cinematographer Pankaj Kumar to debut as director with Konyak

Pankaj Kumar, known for his cinematography in Tumbbad (2018), is set to make his directorial debut with the tribal action film Konyak. According to sources, the film, set in Northeast India, was selected for the National Film Development Corporation’s (NFDC) Screenwriters Lab 2024, part of the Film Bazaar at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa.

Written by Uddhav Ghosh, Konyak narrates the tale of a young tribal warrior gifted with prophetic visions. Amidst a violent tribal conflict, he must protect his family. Inspired by Uddhav’s travels in Nagaland, the film will be shot in Konyak Naga and Hindi languages.

Pankaj Kumar is celebrated for his work on acclaimed films like Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022), Talvar (2015), and Haider (2014). He has also worked on web series like Farzi (2023) and Guns & Gulaabs (2023). Additionally, his directorial venture Khauff, a web series for Prime Video, is currently in post-production.

Konyak will mark the first production under Pankaj’s newly established banner, Jiboom Studios. With its unique setting and compelling narrative, the film promises to bring a fresh perspective to Indian cinema.
