The head of South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), Seok Jong-gun, met with Peru’s Defence Minister Walter Astudillo in Lima to explore expanding bilateral defence industry cooperation in land, sea, and air sectors, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Monday.
This meeting took place during South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s visit to Peru for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. At the APEC summit, Yoon and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte agreed to enhance defence and mineral sector cooperation, calling it a milestone in their growing strategic relationship.
During their discussion, Seok emphasized South Korea’s support for the implementation of existing arms deals, including the supply of naval vessels and armoured vehicles by South Korean companies. He also highlighted the potential for future contracts. Notably, in April, South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries secured a $460 million deal to build four warships for Peru’s navy, while Hyundai Rotem and STX also signed a $60 million contract to supply armoured vehicles.
Seok further briefed Astudillo on South Korea’s advanced military technologies, including the KF-21 fighter jet and the Surion utility helicopter.
