Udupi
Efforts are being made by the state government to increase access to justice by setting up courts in rural and interior areas. This announcement was made by the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, HK Patil, during the 125th anniversary celebration of Udupi courts and the Udupi Bar Association.
The Civil Procedure Code has been revised to enable quicker resolution of cases that involve economically disadvantaged individuals and small farmers. Trial courts, or courts of first instance, are viewed as essential in upholding laws and preventing social issues like untouchability, domestic violence, dowry harassment, and crimes against women and children. It was emphasized that these courts are responsible for safeguarding the public’s rights, and citizens can approach the courts if their rights are infringed upon.
The minister also discussed the importance of good governance, explaining that it is achieved through providing basic amenities, security, and opportunities to improve people’s lives. This is intended to instill hope for a better future. The judiciary was described as a crucial part of the government, tasked with implementing laws and resolving disputes to maintain social order and peace.
From the public’s perspective, the judiciary serves as a defense against threats, whether posed by individuals or the state. The event was attended by Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court NV Anjaria and other prominent judicial figures.
