An auto driver from Bengaluru’s Nelamangala went out of his way to help a minor girl found near the KSRTC bus stand reunite with her family. The 11-year-old girl had run away from her home after being scolded by her parents for ‘getting up late’. The timely action of the auto-rickshaw driver helped the girl reunite with her family.

The father of the girl had filed a kidnap complaint with the Kodigehalli police. On Monday, autorickshaw driver Kumar K saw the girl standing near the bus stand at around 9 pm in the night. When asked where she wanted to go, she told Kumar, “Uncle, drop me to any nearby lodge or hotel where I can find accommodation for the night.” Kumar was shocked to hear this and asked her about her parents.

Kumar’s timely action helps girl

The girl told Kumar that she was an orphan and her uncle and aunt looked after her. Realising that she had fled away from her home, the auto-driver immediately informed his wife, who convinced the girl to come to their house.

“I realised that she had fled from home and called my wife Pavitra, asking her to speak to the girl. My wife convinced her to come to our house and I took her there. I called a police constable and distant relative, Narasimha Murthy, and explained the incident. Murthy immediately asked me to take her to the nearest police station and report the matter, “he said.

Wasting no time further, he immediately informed the police and took the girl to Nelamangaala Rural police station.

Initially, Kumar was scolded by the station staff for taking the girl to her house instead of going to the police immediately. Later on, the staff advised Kumar to take the girl to the jurisdictional police station.

Girl reunited with family

The girl was taken to the police station by Kumar and his wife and women police officers managed to get more information about the girl. The police informed the parents of the girl and fortunately they arrived around 2 am on Saturday. The auto-rickshaw driver was later felicitated by the police and the parents of the girl for his selfless act.
