New Delhi
The Indian government on Thursday has announced a call for proposals to establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) focused on Green Hydrogen research and development. This initiative is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with Rs 100 crore allocated for setting up these Centres.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) aims to create world-class CoEs to promote innovation, sustainability, and long-term energy independence. These centres will play a critical role in advancing Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies, helping accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The CoEs will serve as hubs for cutting-edge research, skill development, and knowledge-sharing. They will also foster collaboration among various stakeholders, including industry, academia, and government, to drive innovations and improve Green Hydrogen technologies, enhancing process efficiency and enabling new product development.
Launched in 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission is backed by a total outlay of Rs 19,744 crore until 2029-30. This mission aligns with India’s broader goal of achieving clean energy self-reliance while also contributing to the global clean energy transition. Additionally, India’s green hydrogen push aims to reduce the country’s dependence on crude oil imports, combat climate change, and improve its trade balance.
