Port Sudan

Sudan is facing a growing health crisis with the number of cholera cases rising to 30,880 and dengue fever cases reaching 6,011, according to the country’s Health Ministry on Tuesday night.

The latest cholera report revealed that 138 new cases, including two deaths, have been registered, bringing the total to 30,880 cases with 887 deaths. Gedaref State alone accounted for 72 of the new cholera cases. Additionally, 91 new cases of dengue fever were reported in Kassala State, where the disease is surging, raising the total to 6,011 cases, including 12 deaths.

Kassala State is experiencing high rates of both diseases, largely due to displacement caused by ongoing conflict in the Gezira region. The country has also been battling other epidemic diseases like malaria and measles, further exacerbating the public health situation.

The crisis is compounded by the continued fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has led to over 24,850 deaths and displaced millions since April 2023. The situation has overwhelmed healthcare systems and heightened concerns about disease outbreaks in the region.
