Kolkata Police has registered an FIR against actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty following a complaint about a provocative statement he made during a party meeting in October. The incident occurred during a BJP organizational event in Kolkata, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to police sources, a complaint was lodged on Monday evening by an anonymous individual at the Bowbazar Police Station. The complainant accused Chakraborty of making statements on October 27 that could incite violence and create tensions. The complainant urged the police to take legal action against the actor-politician.
In his speech, Chakraborty had made remarks about a political leader’s controversial comments on the population ratio between Muslims and Hindus in Murshidabad district, triggering backlash. He pointed out that the leader had suggested violence against the Hindu population in the area, and he criticized the Chief Minister for not taking action. Chakraborty also hinted at taking action against those responsible, stating, A day will come when I will busy you in your own soil.
The comments led to controversy, as the Election Commission had previously censured the Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir for similar remarks. The case against Chakraborty is under investigation, but no further actions have been specified by the police yet.
