India has been re-elected as the President of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) for the term 2024-2026. This decision was made during the 7th ISA General Assembly on Monday, where France was chosen as the Vice-President.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced India’s re-election, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to promote solar energy globally. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has made significant strides in increasing solar energy use and attracting investment in key projects, including solar mini-grids and healthcare solutions.

At the assembly, eight Vice Presidents from different regions were elected. Ghana and Seychelles will represent Africa, while South Sudan and Comoros will serve as Vice-Chairs. In the Asia and Pacific region, Australia and Sri Lanka were selected as Vice Presidents, with the United Arab Emirates and Papua New Guinea as Vice-Chairs. Germany and Italy will represent Europe, alongside Greece and Norway as Vice-Chairs, while Grenada and Suriname will lead the Latin America and Caribbean region.

The assembly also announced Ashish Khanna as the new Director General, who will take office in March 2025, succeeding Ajay Mathur. The ISA continues to focus on solar technology projects, particularly for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), with 11 projects launched since 2020. Discussions will also include funding support for solar projects and encouraging women’s involvement in ISA initiatives.
