East China’s Fujian Province has issued a high-level emergency response as Typhoon Kong-rey, the 21st typhoon of the year, is expected to hit the region.
To prepare for the storm, railway and maritime authorities have suspended several train services and canceled 71 coastal ferry routes, impacting 190 vessels. Additionally, 115 construction projects along the coast have been halted until further notice.
Rescue teams, including ships, helicopters, and patrol boats, are on standby to handle any emergencies, according to Fujian maritime authorities.
The National Meteorological Centre has warned that Kong-rey could make landfall in Fujian or nearby Zhejiang provinces. An orange alert has been issued, predicting heavy rains for eastern areas, including Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu provinces, and Shanghai, from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon.
China’s emergency response system has four levels, with Level I being the most severe, and it also uses a color-coded weather warning system, where red indicates the highest level of danger, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
