The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed 11 directors, including former president Nazmul Hassan, citing failure to attend three or more consecutive meetings. This decision, announced Thursday, impacts key figures, such as Sheikh Sohel, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) chairman, and directors Manzur Kader, AJM Nasir Uddin, Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed, Obeid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza, and Nazib Ahmed.
Additionally, three other board members—Naimur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, and Enayet Hossain Siraj—submitted their resignations, which the board accepted. BCB’s recent shake-up reduces the number of active directors, as meetings had become infrequent following the exit of Bangladesh’s former government led by Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League.
On the cricket front, Bangladesh recently suffered a seven-wicket defeat to South Africa in the first of a two-match Test series. South African bowler Kagiso Rabada achieved a major career milestone, taking 300 Test wickets, while wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne became one of few South African keepers to score a Test century in Asia.
After losing the first Test, Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to field first. Despite their spinners’ efforts, South Africa took a commanding 202-run lead. South Africa’s bowlers dominated the field, with Rabada finishing with figures of 6/46, securing an easy target of 106 runs for the team to win by seven wickets. The second Test will be Bangladesh’s chance to even the series.
