South Africa achieved a historic victory over Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs in Chattogram on Thursday, marking their largest win in Test history and their first series win in the subcontinent in a decade. This monumental win, part of a series sweep, lifted South Africa to fourth in the World Test Championship standings.

Opting to bat first, South Africa amassed an impressive 575/6. The innings was anchored by Tony de Zorzi’s exceptional 177 and Wiaan Mulder’s maiden Test century of 105, complemented by contributions from Tristan Stubbs (106) and Senuran Muthusamy (68 not out). Their aggressive batting included a record 17 sixes, showcasing a complete team performance.

In response, Bangladesh’s batting lineup faltered under pressure, collapsing to 159 and 143. Kagiso Rabada led the bowling attack, claiming five wickets in each innings, while Keshav Maharaj matched his performance with another five-wicket haul. Bangladesh briefly showed resistance through a 103-run ninth-wicket partnership between Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to cope with the disciplined South African bowling.

Despite some promising moments, no Bangladeshi batter scored above 38 in the second innings, exposing their weaknesses against the South African pace and spin combination.

Brief Scores: South Africa: 575/6 declared (Tony de Zorzi 177, Tristan Stubbs 106, David Bedingham 59, Kyle Verreynne 105 not out, Senuran Muthusamy 68 not out; Taijul Islam 5-198)

Bangladesh: 159 & 143 (Hasan Mahmud 38 not out, Najmul Hasan Shanto 36; Keshav Maharaj 5 wickets)
