A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a deaf and mute woman in an abandoned building in Kultali, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Following the incident, locals have protested, accusing Prahlad Nashkar, a local Trinamool Congress panchayat chief, of trying to bribe the victim’s family with ₹2,00,000 to settle the matter.
Nashkar denies this, claiming he informed the family first. The victim’s family lodged a complaint on Wednesday, leading police to arrest the accused based on evidence. He is set to appear in district court, where the prosecutor will request police custody. Earlier this month, nearby areas saw violent protests after a minor’s rape and murder, with locals blaming police negligence.
