The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Association (WBJDA) is set to hold a mass convention on November 9, urging the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the submission of the final charge sheet in the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital rape and murder case. This event marks three months since the body of a junior doctor was discovered in a seminar room at R.G. Kar on August 9.
The WBJDA, reportedly aligned with the ruling Trinamool Congress, formed in response to the protests initiated by the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF) over this tragic incident. An association representative expressed frustration at the lack of progress in the CBI’s investigation since they took over, emphasizing the urgency for a swift charge sheet submission to commence the trial process.
Simultaneously, the WBJDF organized a torch rally outside the CBI’s office, echoing calls for a prompt and thorough conclusion to the investigation. Tensions have risen between the two groups, with the WBJDF accusing the WBJDA of fostering a threat culture within medical institutions, while the WBJDA contends that the WBJDF is using the case for personal gain, including fundraising. The WBJDA has also called for an investigation into the WBJDF’s funding sources by the state government, intensifying the rivalry between these associations.
