A compromise negotiation between the officials of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states has been successful in order to re-run the raft in the Karnataka side.
When the tourists were taken to see the Hogenakal falls, the Tamil Nadu police took away the mobile phone and oars from the rafters. Enraged by this, the Karnataka rafters had stopped rafting demanding that they should be given adequate protection. Tamil Nadu DYS.P. Jayasunder, Inspector Murali, Gopinatham, DRF Dinesh, Head Constable of Male Mahadeshwar Hill Murugesh and police personnel led a meeting and a compromise was reached.
In the meeting, DySP of Tamil Nadu Jai Sunder said that when tourists come to see Hogenakal Falls and take selfies near the falls, the Tamil Nadu Police has issued a warning as a precautionary measure that there may be a disaster if they fall into the falls. It is the responsibility of the raft operator to take the tourists and bring them back safely. It is also your responsibility to protect the lives of the tourists. We have told them to be careful. The rafters will not allow such incidents after saying that they will do boating, he clarified.
However, after a meeting of the officials of the two states, raft traffic has started again.
