Gurugram
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has taken a firm stance against littering, issuing fines to 2,063 individuals for dumping waste in public spaces, totaling ₹11.5 lakh since June. According to officials, multiple teams have been assigned to oversee cleanliness efforts throughout the city.
This crackdown targets not only street vendors and shopkeepers but also anyone who contributes to littering in market areas and other public places. As part of the Solid Waste Environmental Requirement Program (SWEEP), sanitation teams actively monitor areas to improve waste management.
In June, the state government declared a solid waste emergency, leading to the launch of the SWEEP campaign. The initiative includes collaboration between MCG and district administration teams to enhance cleanliness in Gurugram.
The MCG Commissioner noted that while efforts to maintain cleanliness are ongoing, some residents continue to irresponsibly dispose of their waste on streets and in public areas. Those caught littering face fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,000.
MCG officials emphasized that sanitation teams work daily to keep roads, streets, and green belts clean. Despite their efforts, some individuals persist in creating messes in these areas. Narhari Singh Bangar, MCG Commissioner, affirmed that the teams will keep monitoring illegal dumping activities closely.
