Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, claiming he is shielding SEBI chairman Madhabi Puri Buch from accountability. In a post on X, Kharge stated, narendramodi ji, you cannot hide the corruption within SEBI under the leadership you appointed. The ongoing revelations have made her position impossible to defend.
Kharge further accused Modi of undermining the integrity of SEBI, the regulatory body for India’s financial markets, which has taken years to build. He warned that the Prime Minister’s actions threaten the savings of millions of small and medium investors. He called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation, alleging that Modi has created a monopoly for his associate, Adani. A comprehensive JPC inquiry is essential to investigate every aspect of this operation, he added.
Congress leader Pawan Khera echoed these sentiments during a press conference, suggesting the NDA government is protecting Buch. He questioned the government’s motives, asking whether Buch is somehow compromising the government’s integrity. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi also addressed the situation, releasing a video detailing the allegations against Buch. In September, Madhabi and her husband, Dhaval Buch, denied the accusations against them, describing them as false and malicious, claiming that their tax returns had been illegally obtained.
