Dr BR Ambedkar was not opposing any religion, alternatively he was wishing purification of religion, said social activist Vadiraj.

He was delivering a special lecture at  Dr BR Ambedkar jayanthi programme arranged by Manasagangothri social studies department, social justice and reconciliation forum and prize distribution for winners in essay competition.

Ambedkar tried to rectify the defects in the society.  However, this is not the change they expected in society.  Many are of the opinion that Ambedkar was anti-religious.  Ambedkar fought for equal rights for all.  He tried to erase the shortcomings in Hinduism, he said.

Professor G Hemant Kumar, Chancellor of the University of Mysore, said that no matter how much he talks about Baba Saheb, it is  less. He wished that researchers could follow the path set out by Ambedkar and work towards future of the country in the field of education, he said.

As per Ambedkar’s ambition, we must first serve the nation as an Indian and extend our helping hand to needy people and envisioned as a good citizen.  Now we are talking about human resources, which Ambedkar had already spoke.  Research must be done for the betterment of the country, society and human beings.  Universities must give importance to strengthening the path of research on Ambedkar, he said.

Ambedkar was India’s first untouchable to receive a college degree. He earned a law degree and doctorate in law, economics and political science. As a scholar, he earned fame by campaigning for the inferior, political rights and social freedom in the system for the untouchables, he said.

Assistant Professor Dr Chandramouli, Chairman of the Social work department Dr HP Jyothi and others participated.
