A Singapore Airlines flight en route to Tokyo was diverted to Taipei on Monday due to a cracked windshield. The incident involved Flight SQ636, which was carrying 249 passengers and 17 crew members.

The Boeing 777-300ER took off from Changi Airport in Singapore at 11:07 PM on Sunday, with an expected arrival at Haneda Airport in Tokyo at 6:20 AM on Monday. However, the flight had to divert to Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei after the windshield crack was detected mid-flight.

The aircraft landed safely at the Taipei airport, and a Singapore Airlines spokesperson confirmed that the landing was “uneventful.” The flight has been renumbered and is scheduled to depart Taipei for Tokyo at 8:30 PM local time, with an expected arrival in Haneda at 12:30 AM on Tuesday—resulting in an approximately 18-hour delay.

Singapore Airlines expressed its sincere apologies to the affected passengers for the inconvenience caused, reiterating that the safety of customers and crew is its top priority. The airline has also arranged hotel accommodations for those impacted by the diversion.
