BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia has raised concerns about Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s election affidavit for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election, questioning her eligibility to contest. Speaking at the party’s headquarters on Saturday, Bhatia emphasized that candidates must disclose any criminal history and their assets, including those of their spouses, as mandated by the Supreme Court.
Bhatia accused Priyanka of omitting critical information, specifically her involvement in the National Herald case and the shares she holds through a trust. He noted discrepancies in her affidavit, pointing out that while it mentions her husband’s partnerships in three companies, she is linked to five companies herself. He called for Priyanka to publicly clarify these issues and demanded transparency regarding the Gandhi family’s assets and partnerships.
Criticizing the Gandhi family, Bhatia claimed they see themselves as above constitutional rules and are deceiving the people of Wayanad by withholding essential information. He labeled them the most corrupt political family in the world and asserted that candidates who hide facts in their affidavits should not be allowed to run for office.
Bhatia noted that while the election process is ongoing, the returning officer plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with the law. He reiterated that the BJP respects the rule of law and will act based on evidence. Meanwhile, on Friday, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya also criticized Priyanka for allegedly concealing key asset details in her affidavit, which he claimed obscured more than it revealed.
