The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has announced a plan to permanently address the issue of potholes in the twin cities. A thorough survey conducted by expert teams assessed the extent of road damage, revealing that 52,722 square metres of road surface in Hubli-Dharwad is affected.

As of October 21, HDMC has filled 18,612 square metres of potholes, leaving 34,109 square metres still needing repairs. The estimated cost to complete this work is around Rs 2.2 crore.

Zone 12 was identified as having the highest number of potholes, requiring 4,553 square metres of attention, while Zone 9 reported the fewest, with 1,420 square metres needing repair.

Vijay Kumar, the in-charge Superintending Engineer at HDMC, stated that ward engineers inspected all roads to assess damage caused by rainfall and other factors. He indicated that road restoration work would commence according to Public Works Department (PWD) norms, and a tender will soon be floated.

A key stipulation in the tender process will require contractors to maintain the repaired roads for one year. If any potholes reappear during this period, the contractor must address them at no additional cost.
