Following the BJP’s announcement of its first list of 99 candidates, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ official residence, ‘Sagar,’ located in Malabar Hill, has transformed into a bustling hub of activity, overshadowing the party’s headquarters near Mantralaya.
Numerous party candidates, both selected and those left off the list, are flocking to Fadnavis’ home for discussions. According to party insiders, he is engaging with everyone, encouraging nominees to work diligently for their seats while urging those not chosen to remain loyal, especially as the MahaYuti coalition’s success is vital.
Fadnavis is also advising about 18 sitting legislators, including Mumbai’s Sunil Rane, Bharati Lavhekar, and Parag Shah, to hold on until the final candidate list is revealed. Meetings extended into late Monday evening and are expected to continue on Tuesday.
Prominent leaders like Rane and Lavhekar have appealed for another chance, while Atul Shah and Murli Patel are pushing for nominations from Mumbadevi and Andheri East, respectively. Fadnavis assured them that their requests would be considered. Meanwhile, former Minister Bala Bhegde expressed his interest in the Maval constituency, which could face competition from Ajit Pawar’s NCP. Notably, independent legislator Satyajit Tambe also met Fadnavis, but his candidacy remains uncertain.
