The selection of Bharath Bommai as the BJP candidate for the Shiggaon by-election sparked discontent within the party. Srikant Dundigowdar, a strong contender with significant local backing, was passed over, leading to a revolt in the constituency. He voiced his frustration with the decision made by the BJP leadership, including former CM and MP Basavaraj Bommai, for not considering him.

Srikant’s supporters convened an urgent meeting in Shiggaon to plan their next steps following the ticket disappointment. The rebellion escalated, creating a difficult situation for the BJP in the constituency. Dundigoudra also boycotted a BJP meeting held at Bommai’s residence in Shiggaon on Monday.
In a press conference, Srikant Dundigoudar expressed his anguish over not being granted the ticket. ‘I sincerely believed loyal workers are rewarded in the party,’ said a visibly upset Dundigoudar. ‘I am deeply hurt that dedicated workers didn’t get the recognition they deserve,’ he added, conveying his anguish.
Dundigoudar disclosed that he discussed the ticket issue with former CM Bommai and Union minister Pralhad Joshi. ‘Both assured me regarding BJP candidature for the Shiggaon byelection, but now Basavaraj Bommai has favoured his son. I will decide on Oct 24 after discussing with my supporters the next course of action,’ he clarified.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has not yet decided on their candidate, and all ticket aspirants are currently in Bengaluru, lobbying for the opportunity to contest the by-election.
