A man in Karachi has been arrested for killing four female relatives, including his mother and sister, due to their ‘liberal’ lifestyle and use of social media. Bilal Ahmed, the 30-year-old suspect, was taken into custody on Saturday and appeared in court on Monday, where he was remanded to police custody.
During the court hearing, Ahmed confessed to slitting the throats of his mother, sister, niece, and sister-in-law, claiming that their lifestyle had damaged his marriage and that they frequently nagged him. Investigating Officer Shaukat Awan described the case as one of a mentally unstable and ultra-conservative individual.
The bodies of the four women were discovered in their apartment in the old Soldier Bazar area of Karachi, each with their throats cut. According to police, Ahmed had been engaged in daily arguments with his relatives and blamed them for his wife leaving him, as she adhered to more traditional beliefs.
He expressed particular anger towards his sister and niece for sharing pictures and videos on social media. Initially intending to ‘teach his sister a lesson,’ Ahmed ultimately decided to murder all four women to eliminate any witnesses to his crime. This tragic incident highlights the severe consequences of deeply rooted societal and familial conflicts regarding lifestyle choices in certain communities.
