Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli declared on Sunday that no anti-China activities will be permitted within the country, reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to the ‘One China’ policy.
Oli made these statements during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Chen Jining, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee, at his official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu. He emphasized that Nepal would not allow any activities against China to operate on its territory.
The ‘One China’ policy is a diplomatic acknowledgment that Taiwan is part of China, which China enforces on countries that maintain relations with it. During the meeting, Oli expressed hopes for continued Chinese support for Nepal’s economic development and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, including collaboration between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist).
Oli, seen as a pro-China leader, underscored the importance of high-level exchanges between the two countries to enhance ties in governance, trade, and cultural relations. He praised the CPC and President Xi Jinping’s leadership in poverty alleviation and overall development, expressing Nepal’s interest in benefiting from China’s advancements.
Chen reiterated China’s support for Nepal’s prosperity and assured that Beijing respects the decisions made by Nepal’s political parties. The meeting included other officials, including Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal and China’s Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.
