Singapore detains teenager for planned attack

Must read

Singapore

A 17-year-old boy has been detained under the Internal Security Act for planning a terror attack on non-Muslim males in a public housing estate. Influenced by conflicts involving Hamas and developments in Syria, he intended to use a kitchen knife or scissors as weapons. The Internal Security Department revealed that he had taken significant steps toward executing his plan, set for September during school holidays, and had scouted a location near the busy Tampines West Community Centre.

Officials noted the boy was arrested just weeks before the intended attack. Minister for Law and Home Affairs K. Shanmugam called it a ‘very close shave,’ emphasizing the potential for mass casualties. The teenager had practiced stabbing motions and expressed a desire to die as a martyr, believing his attack would be unprecedented in Singapore in recent decades.
