Davanagere
A tragic accident occurred near Bhadra canal in Davanagere, leaving two people dead and four others rescued. The car, reportedly losing control, plunged into the canal near Shanti Sagar in Sulekere, Channagiri taluk.
The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Siddesh and 27-year-old Mallikarjun, both residents of Davanagere. Reports indicate that they were returning home after visiting the Koragajjan temple in Mangaluru. The driver of the car reportedly lost control and the vehicle overturned before falling into the canal.
Local residents immediately alerted the Santebenneur police, who arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fire department personnel also joined the search operation to locate the missing car and the victims. A large number of people gathered near the canal to watch the rescue efforts. Families of the deceased were present at the site, anxiously waiting for updates.
In a separate incident earlier this week, four people lost their lives in a road accident on November 5 on the Bidar-Humanabad highway near Neelannahalli Tanda in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district. A car carrying five villagers from Jagannathpuri, Telangana, collided head-on with a goods vehicle while returning from a visit to the Dattatreya temple in Devalaganagapur, Kalaburagi district.
The victims included Rachappa Ramachandrappa Biradar (51), driver Navnath Sharanappa (25), and Nagaraju Istaiya (38), who died on the spot. Another passenger, Kashinath Ramshetty (62), succumbed to injuries later at BRIMS Hospital. Police quickly cleared the accident site with a JCB to allow traffic to resume and have registered a formal complaint.
Authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious, especially on highways and near canals, as recent accidents have highlighted the dangers of speeding and inattentive driving. Rescue teams continue to work tirelessly to prevent further tragedies.
